In our fast track lives of emailing, texting, high speed broadband and smartphone apps; everything is done in a split second and if you are like me sometimes a bit hastily! So if you have sent an email by mistake in gmail how do you stop it sending?
From my experience with clients the favourite tool for communicating is still email. Personally I feel it gets overused and abused and often it enables the sender to express exactly how they are feeling about the other human reading it.
That project that is behind schedule, the human you are emailing that isn’t pulling their weight or simply you are having a bad day…all of these mean you could be a little trigger happy and hit the SEND button before reviewing what you have typed!
So if you had a tool that could recall the email a few moments after you have sent; would that help you save face with the other person? Historically Outlook has always had a recall option, however annoyingly it would pop up as a request to recall the message at the recipient’s end which would certainly arouse suspicion and they would simply ignore the recall request and read it anyway.
If you use Google Apps for Business then Gmail has a neat little extra called “Undo Send”. Simply put after you click send a message pops up so you can cancel the email within 15 seconds…now your boss doesn’t have to know what you think of him!
How to install Undo Send
- In gmail, click the big cog wheel top right of the screen
- Click on SETTINGS
- Across the top row of blue labels click “Labs”
- In the Search for a lab: field enter “undo send” and press enter
- The “undo send” lab will appear below
- Click the circle next to Enable
- Above click the Save Changes Button
You will now be taken back to your inbox.
My Dad used to always say to me “less speed, more haste”. However on those days where your fingers are an extension of your mood, try undo send with gmail!
